Glossary of Capacitor Terms
- rho = R x A / d
- where rho, electrolyte resistivity, or specific resistance, has units ohm-cm, 'R' is resistance in ohms, 'A' is the cross-sectional area in cm2, and 'd' is the path length in cm. Cells are calibrated against a standard solution, usually 0.01 N KCl, where a correction factor, known as the cell constant, is determined.
- The cell constant is multiplied by the right side of the equation to yield the correct resistivity, and since it is a function of temperature, a cell is good only for the temperature at which the constant was determined.
