Commonwealth Sprague Launches Medium Voltage Line:
Ships First In-House Manufactured Medium Voltage Power Factor Correction
Unit.

NORTH ADAMS, MASSACHUSETTS – December 18, 2000 – Commonwealth Sprague, a
leading manufacturer of power quality products, recently shipped its
first in-house manufactured medium voltage Power Factor Correction unit,
inaugurating a new line of products.
In making the announcement, Lawrence Taft, General Manager of
Commonwealth Sprague’s Systems Division, said, “For years, Commonwealth
Sprague has been a market leader in worldwide shipments of low voltage
power factor correction and harmonic filtering products. We are pleased
to kick off our medium voltage line with this shipment.”
Commonwealth Sprague is a $20 million (sales) engineering and
manufacturing company which was spun off from Sprague Electric in 1986.
The company invented low voltage power factor correction units in 1935
and has been the market leader ever since.
“We have been very successful with our custom-built low voltage units,”
said Mr. Taft. “Because of a growing demand for medium-voltage systems,
we hope to quickly become a market leader in this segment as well. We
are excited to be able to supply our customers with another product that
provides cost savings and improved power quality.”
In order to support the increased technology demands of the medium
voltage line, Commonwealth Sprague’s Systems Division recently moved
into a new Curran Highway manufacturing facility. “We are committed to
aggressively adding new product lines,” said Mr. Taft, “and purchased
our new facility in order to support our development.”
With the addition of its new product line, Commonwealth Sprague’s
products are now available in the 240 Volt – 35 KiloVolt range, with
Kvar ratings up to 5000 Kvar.
